On [DATE], American Public University System combined with Rasmussen University and Hondros College of Nursing to form a single higher education institution. American Public University System (System) now includes American Public University, American Military University, Rasmussen University, and Hondros College of Nursing. The System is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a wholly owned subsidiary of American Public Education, Inc. (APEI). Dr. Michelle Wessel is the Associate Dean of Curriculum and Assessment at American Public University System (APUS), providing strategic vision and leadership through ongoing analysis and enhancement of the University’s comprehensive assessment practices and curriculum processes. She is an accomplished professional in assessment and curriculum development.

Dr. Wessel joined APUS in December 2023. Prior to that, she has successfully revitalized and created assessment processes at two universities, ensuring alignment to specialty and regional accreditation standards.

Dr. Wessel brings a wealth of experience in curriculum development that ensures students receive a high-quality education while meeting and exceeding industry standards. She has implemented assessment best practices at the course, program, and institutional levels.

Before APUS, Dr. Wessel was the Associate Dean of Business, Health Sciences, and Homeland Security at Southwestern Illinois College. Previously, she served as Program Coordinator and was full-time faculty at Kaskaskia College. She has over 10 years of experience in higher education as faculty and academic leadership.

Dr. Wessel earned her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, a Post-Masters Certificate in Higher Education Administration, and an MHAfrom the University of Phoenix. She holds a B.S. in Physical Therapy and a B.S. in Biology from Maryville University. Her educational advancement has focused on leadership development, strategic planning, shared governance, and outcomes assessment.
